Chemical Cleaning

Over a long period of time, brick and stonework becomes dirty and dull, especially after many years of being subjected to the air pollution that is discharged from chimneys and vehicle emissions. However, we now know that today the air pollution has been reduced dramatically.

In 1993, the company that I worked for always told the general public that the external brick and stonework of the property would need to be cleaned every 20 years. Wind the clock forward to today and with the reduction of the air pollution, the brick and stonework would more than likely not have that kind of black and dirty contaminated look again.

The chemical cleaning method is mainly used on brick and sometimes on stone and there is no damage sustained to the brick and stonework when the chemical cleaning process is used.

We always take pride and care when cleaning a property and treat each property as if it is our own taking extra care.

In no time at all you can have your property looking fresh and clean again.

All brickwork and stonework would need to be re-pointed at some time in its life. Various signs start to show when the old pointing starts to deteriorate, even falling out, causing damp inside the property.

We have found over the years that people have not removed the old pointing and just re-pointed over the top, leaving that to just wear away in a short time.

At SurePoint Restoration we offer an excellent pointing service across the North West to both domestic and commercial properties. Our workforce have between 10 to 40 years’ experience taking pride in any work they undertake.

The first thing when pointing any brickwork or stonework is PREPARATION and making sure that all the old pointing is removed correctly. The average depth is between 12mm to 25mm but this depends on how narrow the joint is between the brick and stonework. The narrow joint means less depth can be achieved.

There are different methods when removing the old pointing. Mechanical disk, raking tools and even chisels, making sure that none of the brick/stone is damaged in the process.

There are various types of pointing which can be used, weather struck, flash and bucket handle are just a few. There are also different types of sand/cement and coloured mortars and they can all make a difference to the end result.

SurePoint Restoration is a very experienced family run business and our pointing services are carried out with a very professional attitude and treat every job whether is it brick, stone or wood etc as if it was our own.

Silicone Sealing

If the brick/stonework has been cleaned and pointed, silicone is a great way to protect it for longer by keeping out the rainwater, yet allowing the brick/stonework to breathe.

Siliconing is recommended for porous-type brickwork and even roof tiles after they have been cleaned and treated, and even driveways to prevent unwanted moss growth.

Colourless water-repellent liquids are intended to improve the resistance to rain penetration of brickwork, stonework and even roofs without appreciably changing their appearance. The Siliconing treatment also lines the pores with a water-repellent material which inhibits capillary absorption, so that water does not sink into the surface, so preventing moss growth.

We recommend that you have the silicone treatment repeated every 3-4 years, although this isn’t imperative.

SurePoint Restoration offers this specialist service to both commercial building and residential dwelling owners to help them protect their properties their properties against the elements.
